Lonavala – “Relaxing in Hotel” place

Share

October, 2019. I hear a lot about Lonavala as a hill station (2000 feet) but I find nothing here interesting to really term as a hill station. May be it is just a DRIVE OUT day for Mumbaikars or Puneites to a somewhat quiet and less crowded place. As far as local city concern there is nothing great except tiger point, a dull lake and 3-4 wax museums with expensive entry fee.

So as I landed in Lonavala at 5 PM by local train from Pune I booked a taxi to visit some locations adjoining. After that I relaxed at Sterling hotel for the night. There are many other hotels and home stays.

Stayed 2 nights at Sterling hotel in Lonvala. Very good food and courteous staff.

The plan I set with jeep taxi for a day for Rs.1800 and time 9 AM to 4 PM. But we could cover only few things as all these places required good amount of steep trekking and walks.

We just were able to cover Lohagad Fort- Bhaja cave- local Lonavala in one day. For your information we can set the below itinerary of 4 relaxing days in Lonavala.

  • Day 1 – Karla caves- Bhaja caves- Bedse caves
  • Day 2 – Lohagad Fort- Visapur Fort
  • Day 3 – Tunga Fort- Tikona Fort
  • Day 4 – Camping overnight at Pawana lake
Out of all this we just were able to cover Lohagad Fort- Bhaja cave- local Lonawala in one day.

Here I am covering some views of local Lonavala. I was really NOT impressed in local trip except that it is calm and quiet and “relaxing in hotel” place.

A good and vast view point of Sahyadri Hill range. This hill demarcates Deccan Plateu and Western Ghat. This place looks like green Gran Cannyons.
Tiger point -another view

There is a lake in Lonavala. Here also lot of crowd but you can not go near the lake. Just enjoy the scene from road. This lake is on way to Tiger point.

Local lake in Lonavala. We halted here while returning from Tiger point.

Epilogue

If we omit adjacent caves and forts from Lonavala, there is nothing here except Tiger point. So it is just “Relaxing in hotel” kind of place. There is nothing here to term as hill station.
